easy. cut the wall behind the valve, remove the trim from valve
remove the valve from the back, insert new valve into old holes
replumb, test, caulk, patch sheet rock in bedroom/closet/hallway/whereever it is

Of course you could do it from the back if you have access but why would you replace it with the same configuration

why? to keep from forking out 2 g's for a new tile shower, the op did not ask my opinion if i liked it or not,

Won't be up to code with that configuration
Can be, if it is installed correctly with a separate pressure balancing valve.

In the configuration it is in now it does not have a pressure balance valve to keep from getting scalded
In my jurisdiction I cannot replace it with a non conforming valve
