i’m building a house and am interested in what piping materials (PVC, copper, PE, PPR) would be best for each application. what would you recommend for wastewater? hot water? gas? what are the relative advantages and disadvantages for the materials for cost, durability, ease of putting together etc?

thanks

I agree with fish, please advise your plumber to stay away from CSST!!!!!!!

Just a question from a plumber north of the border....

Everything i have seen from guys posting pictures on here from the USA is white PVC. Do you ever use ABS?

In CA all drain plumbing is ABS and they transition when it comes out of the wall to that thin wall prettier stuff.

ABS is only used in mobile homes (trailers) down here. I know it is popular in other parts of the country, but I have no real experience with it.

What do you guys use under the slab of a home?

Schedule 40 PVC for the drainage system. NOT FOAM CORE! If your plumber thinks you should have foam core PVC, FIRE HIM!

Uponor for hot and cold water supply.

Schedule 40 black steel pipe for the gas.

If the plumber suggest CSST gas tubing, treat him as though he suggested foam core PVC, FIRE HIM.
