Shall I take a look at my BW anode rod myself?

Factory parts list (# 10) show the anode rod as being combined with the hot water outlet. The cold water inlet will contain the dip tube (if one is used).

Thank you for the PDF attachment. It appears that PVC is approved for those power vent models. I stand corrected.....

Model # appears to be MIITW40S5CN10 (but I didn't find any exact match at the document center over at B/W website).

Interestingso on these types of water heaters where the anode rod is in combination with the hot water outlet fittingwe're not meant to check it and replace it DIY you're saying.

Maybe the WH is so old they have dropped service info on it.
