I had posted a while back about a noisy dish washer air gap when the dishwasher drained: very loud gurgling noise the wife did not like. After considering replacing it with a high loop and deciding that would be a lot of work -- considering I'd have to work around a deep bowl sink -- I simply wrapped the air gap with a few turns of saran wrap to cover the air holes and block the noise. The air gap cover still fits over it just fine.

It DOES block the noise, very well in fact. I wonder if I've solved my issue without incident or if there's something that's going to come back and bite me in the future? It doesn't seem like it's much different from a high loop, but I will confess I'm not a plumbing expert, so that's why I'm here asking.

Get rid of that air gap. Use it to install a soap dispenser. We keep Dawn in it to wash dishes. Just install a high loop and forget about the air gap.
