I'd like some professional opinion(s) on this setup. This is a drain in my basement. The pipe against the wall is the kitchen sink drain. The parallel pipe is a drain from a main floor laundry. (The main floor laundry was added by a previous owner.)
Would a better solution have been to tie the laundry drain into the vertical near the top, using a sanitary tee? That way there would only be one vertical pipe going down. I don't understand why they installed the parallel drain, and tied in near the bottom. Maybe they did it so they could have the cleanouts.
I am in the process of fixing up the basement and I would like to reconfigure these pipes to use the space more efficiently.
