I just drained about a gallon of water out of my pantry ceiling and need advice on how to fix a leaking 2 inch copper drain connection. I believe the leak is facing away from my access point. I can only assume that the pipes are soldered together, but I can't actually see.

Copper waste line joints don't usually fail over time. But copper drain lines do. Many copper drains were DWV tubing which was a light weight copper pipe. The first signs of failure is green spots along the top or bottom of the pipe. At these points you can crush the pipe with your fingers. In time they will become holes. The only repair is to replace the pipe.

Open the ceiling to expose the drain. Take and post pics of needed repair.
