Hello,

I just had the old cast iron tub refinished as a temporary fix before I can do a complete remodel of the bathroom. The place that did the refinishing was the local Surface Specialists. they noted that the tub faucet was dripping a little bit and recommend to get it repaired as soon as possible.

Before I go taking anything apart, can any one identify this old Kohler three handle tub/shower faucet, and if parts are still available?

see attached images.

Thanks

Scott

Remove the diverter stem and post a pic. You can remove the diverter stem with out turning off the water to the house.

I'll have to go get some stem wrenches.

I'm not even sure anything is even leaking. The tub/shower hasn't been used for two days now and there is no water dripping from the faucet as the area under the faucet around the drain is completely dry.

I think what he saw dripping was the residual water in the pipes after the faucet is turned off.

I will take apart anyways as this is in an apartment I just bought and if a situation arises after a tenant is in there, at least I'll know what parts I will need.

That looks exactly like the Briggs handles and faucet valve body that I have. I replaced the handles, stems and seats with a Danco rebuild set.

a little delayed, but here is a pic of the cold side, stem. I couldn't budge the diverter, the cold came right out.

I am sure you can purchase replacement stems and seats for that fixture. Although when working on other peoples faucets we usually replace the whole stem to be sure everything works good, you can replace the bibb washers on the ends of the stems. The seats in the faucet body that the washers compress against can and should be resurfaced or replaced when changing bibb washers. It looks like that stem was recently repaired with a beveled washer. In the US beveled washers are rarely used by original manufacturers but they work ok. If the hot side stem looks to be in similar good shape you can just continue to repair the stems and seats to save a lot of money. If you choose to repair use flat washers.

Hi,

Not familiar with that particular faucet, but work with old fixtures. You might want to check out HD Supply. They stock parts for my 60+ yr old A/S fixtures
