I was trying to redo the valve stems of my shower stall to stop the constant drip.
I got this far in the disassembly but I don't want to force or break anything.
Does the sleeve thread off, or do I need a special tool to remove that brass clip?
Any hints would be appreciated.

 Did you remove anything other than the handle?

What brass clip are you referring to?

I would think the chrome sleeve would just twist off.

Check to see if any brass clip is holding the cartridge in place. If, not than place a channel lock on the red tip and pull outwards. The cartridge should be removed. Keep in mind that that the cartridge may feal "stiff" due to scale build up.
