Hi: This round piece is on my inground pool pump/filter and I need to make a repair. The piece rotates slightly- it's been there a long time. Do I unscrew this to separate the pvc pipes? To reinstall, do I need any adhesives or sealers? I am new to this. Thanks.

Thats a union. Yes you just unthread it to seperate.

There may be an o-ring or rubber on the face of the union when you pull it apart. Just be sure not to lose it and make sure its in good shape when you re-install. No adhesives required, but a dab of lubricant (like vaseline) to the rubber wouldnt hurt.

Thank you Matt. It is kind of hard to turn, but at least I know thats what it's for. I appreciate the help.
