boise,
where is a really good up close soldering instruction video online..??

Google it, Bing it , Yahoo it.

Watch everyone you find and form your own opinion on the information in them.
Honestly I have never seen that one video you're looking for.

There are tips and technique that you may not find in a video.

Most important thing is be careful where you put that flame so you don't burn something like an adjacent wire and or a house.

If you think you found a good one , could you share your efforts with us?

Then we can add our opinion/comments good or bad.

I would say make sure the fitting's are clean, clean clean. Mesh tape, wire brush, whatever but make sure the fittings are clean. Use a good flux paste. Make sure that all cuts are clean and square. Push fittings in all the way together. Heat fitting and let the solder get sucked into the joint. You should not have to paint the solder around the joint to get it to take.
