Can I install a drop ceiling above a shower stall? Would I need to drywall the ceiling or green boad the ceiling in the bathroom or over the shower area? Is there such an animal as a drop ceiling material that is resistant to mold, mildew, etc?

Hello, I agree. The shower will leave you with some issues of steam etc, but if you want to install the drop ceiling throughout the bath, you can always purchase some Formica sheets, cut them to fit and attach them to the ceiling tiles or 1/4" or 3/8" plywood with Hy-bond adhesive, then drop in your 2x2 or 2x4 grids. This is not the best thing but I have done a few for the customers who demanded drop ceiling instead of building a Sheetrock ceiling above and it seems to work pretty slick. You may still get some staining on the grid due to moisture, condensation etc. Just a thought. ;)GregC

Naaagh... Dont do it.
Drywall it in. Green Board is not for use on the ceiling.
I recommend 5/8" type X drywall for this location.
Paint it well with a quality paint.
Some are available with mold and mildew inhibitor built into the paint.
