Chris, for this to be funny. you have to picture this guy.

6'5'' long tall, country as country can be
slow moving, not in a hurry
chews tobacco.
nosey

I was outside the boiler room, cutting holes in a piece of angle iron, to use as a trapeese hanger
the holes were about the size of a nickel

Aubrey, walks up, next to me, puts a chew in his mouth, says "What are you doing?"

my reply was "watching you boots burn"

he was standing on the "cherry" that I just cut out. smoke was boiling out from under his boots

he said. {use your southern accent with mouth full of tobacco, here}

DAD DAMNIT..I just bot dem dad damn boots!!!!

I laughed so hard I dropped the torch

Well don't go away just yet, this service van is showing no signs of slowing down!!

We are in our first real cold snap here. People are just now finding out their heating systems aren't up to snuff, trailer parks freezing up....wheeee doggy! The tax man loves me right now!

So, my mother never got around to setting up long distance service as she couldn't figure out something about the website to order it. I looked at the website and a popup asking if I wanted to chat with a CS person online appeared. I clicked Yes and then explained how I wanted to switch over to the All Distance Plan. The person kept asking about U-verse and then said they were going to transfer me to the U-verse specialist after I told him 5 times that I can't get U-verse. The U-verse specialist couldn't help me, but gave me the phone #. I waited til business hours opened and called and got redirected a few times. Started talking to a guy who barely spoke English. Finally asked to speak with a supervisor. He said she was busy and would call back within an hour. Two hours later I was playing with the Build-A-Plan thing and the popup for chat showed again. So I chatted and this time the first person asked permission to transfer me to a specialist for something else. That specialist gave me a couple of phone numbers and said I could call to ask about the bundles at a certain number. I called and navigated through the menu and explained what I needed and was told I would be transferred.. waited... ringing.. "if you'd like to make a call, please hang up and try again". Arg! So then I called back and got on with someone who actually knew WTF she was talking about and she explained the plans and that I would get a discount on my home phone if I bundled it with my existing cellular. I asked about a discount on my cellular. So I ended up with a $12 discount in total (not much, I know).. She then had to transfer me to someone to confirm the change of plan (after she explained the details very carefully to make sure I understood what the deal was). So now I have unlimited nationwide long distance! Woohoo!

Also, I went to Hastings the other day and saw a Tactical BBQ fork with flashlight and laser.

And I just found out that Lowes and HD have a 10% of discount for retired, active, reserve, and disabled veterans and their families. I wonder if my mother qualifies because she's the widow of a retired veteran.

Don't mind my random rambling. LOL.

Hope everyone is doing well. We had a warm front come in which meant it rained ALL day yesterday and its threatening to rain now.

I made an amalgam of different things for my mother's dinner. Overcooked the asparagus, so I will have to cook it for less time next. But I used aluminium foil for easy cleanup and I didn't use too much oil. It was seasoned nicely. I just have to get the cooking time worked out.

I also plugged up the pipes that were bringing in sewer gases, so that is handled for now. Next I need to focus on finding things I misplaced that I will need for working on my bathroom. I think that will be something to work on in the morning since the lights in here don't work and its dark. I'm just going to focus on things a little at a time so I won't get overwhelmed with the huge list of things to do.

I won't get overwhelmed with the huge list of things to do.

I solved that I don't make a list, But when I do I forget where I put it so I have to start over with a new one. That way I keep them short.

All sorts of good stuff, I need to drink more.

Never thought being a successful business owner would make it more difficult to buy a home than being a minimum wage worker with credit cards maxed out.

Helped my son change the brakes on his car, then went and sold an 80 gallon water heater. Now I will have to install it early next week, and those things are flippin' heavy.

I made dinner again-- more asparagus and some frozen combination fried rice for mom. I had asparagus and chicken pot pie.

I've been trying for the past few days to get my mother out of the house so she can get some sunlight and exercise, but she has been refusing. She hasn't left the house in almost a month.

Ooh, that does sound good!
For some reason now I'm thinking of Shepherd's pie. I used to get that in a kiosk in Singapore. The Dinty Moore idea is cool. I like the beef stew. Not sure if Mom does though.

Love fritos. I can only eat chili in small quantities because it gives me a headache and makes my nose run (I'm mildly allergic to some of the ingredients). The cheese makes it better. :)

The Nu-Wave doesn't have a lot of space inside, but it cooks things fast. Asparagus was ready in 15 min. Normally its supposed to be cooked at 425 but I think max heat for Nu-Wave is something like 375 or 350, but it doesn't have to pre-heat.

Meanwhile, I got miffed at Amazon because I saw an item for a great price. My mother tried to order 2 of them but it only let her order one. She asked me to order it and some other stuff. I put the items in my cart and went to checkout and suddenly the price on the first item was higher than it had been. I went back and the direct from Amazon price had gone up in just a few seconds. So I called and complained and they said adding something to cart didn't lock it in. It was only a few bucks so I decided not to quibble over it. The guy also noted that one of my items (some curry) was sold by a third party seller and would ship separately. I told him I was aware and that was fine so the order went through.

This was a little less than 4 days ago, btw.. Anyway, today I checked my e-mail and read the message about the items being shipped and I noticed that it was listing the price-varied item as being from a third party seller. I went to the site and saw on the side that Amazon was selling it directly for a lower price. So I called them to complain about this price discrepancy. At first the woman tried to blow me off by saying I ordered from a third party seller and I told her it wasn't a third party seller when I put it in my cart and checked out. She said she could either refund me the difference (about $3) or she could give me a $5 credit. I took the credit.

I know its only a few bucks, but I imagine customers lose a lot of $ in the long run over stuff like that. I miss the old practices of Amazon where they would lock in the price in your cart unless the price went down. I also miss when they used to send me free mugs and gifts for being a customer back in the '90s.

So, other than that, I tried to get my mother to get up and go someplace but she's claiming to feel sick. Boo. I may have to run to the store in awhile.
