Hi

I am preparing to install a new tub. I have removed the old one and found this drain assembly. ( see attached photo) Notice that the tailpiece appears to be soldered or metal glued into the drain pipe. Any suggestions on how to get this out so I can install my new tub?

Thanks

That's a pretty tricky thing to hook up.
It is probably soldered in.
You have to set up the drain and overflow so when you set the tub into place it lines up perfectly so you can screw in the drain and the over flow.
This is one that you should hire someone that knows how to do it properly.
Good Luck

Yeah you should definitely hire a pro.

A real pro not a handy guy who has done plumbing before.

I remodeled 2 hotels a while back and we had to intall 124 bathtubs in this manner. There are actually quite a few things that can go wrong.

And you definitely want to replace that waste and overflow assembly with a new one. It looks like its about had it.
