Hello,

We have had a smell coming from our air vents whenever the air kicks on. The funny thing is it does'nt happen all the time and it seems like its more noticable in the summer. We have had our AC unit serviced, our plumbing look at for leaks. NOTHING.

Does anyone have any ideas???? What are we missing in our troubleshooting, we have had p-valves...it was some type of valve (???) changed.... Any ideas would be great....

Thanks

Are your condensation pans clogged up and full of swampy water? That is where I'd be checking first.

My brother ran into this same problem the other day.
We found that condensation had built up in the ac duct work.

The water had turned septic from sitting so long, and
stunk up the house each time the air came on.
We went through the attic and fixed the low spots in the duct work, the
water dried and the smell went away.

That's a first. I'm always getting that "Where's that smell coming from?" call.
What kind of duct work was it.
That flexible plastic stuff with the spring coiled wire or the old school ridged sheet metal.
I hate looking for funky smells.

It was the old steel stuff.
We did find out why it was there. Living on the coast, here in
Texas, its humid 364 days out of the year.

They would be gone for days at a time, leaving the windows open and the air off.
When they came back, the air was turned on down to like (what felt like 50deg...lol) 68 to 70.
Each time they would leave, moisture would build up in the ducts, and over time it would start to pool in the low spots.
