We have developed a leak in the storage tank of our under floor heating system.
Plumber says it is because the guy who installed our system used white hoses (allow oxygen to enter) instead of red hoses. (impermeable to oxygen)
The oxygen might have reacted with the glycol to form an acid that is corroding all metal parts...
or
the oxygen itself is causing oxidation and subsequent corrosion...Either way a big job, replacing all white hoses with red.
Does anyone have any thoughts / ideas on this?
Thanks...

I have seen Pex that has an oxygen barrier in all diffrent colors the markings on the pex should tell you if it can be used or not.

But regarding your issue yes if the wrong pex was installed it will lead to problems but causing anitfreeze to become corrosive sounds like stretch to me. Most likely your installer used inferior fittings and your water ph is the culprit

I presume Pex is tubing...
Will be testing the pH today.
Thanks!

Pex with an oxygen barrier is the only pex you can use on a heating
system it is printed right on the pex the color red is slightly
diffrent in color then domestic hot water pex I'm not sure
This would work but what about a dialectic union I would have to look it up myself to see if that would remedy it I'm gonna look it up

well I went to another plumbing forum one poster said unless
there is an oxygen barrier there is nothing that will stop the corrosion

how old is the install????
call him back,I knew you could only use pex with oxygen barrier
it's the oxygen attacking the steel parts I the boiler you figure
pex being around for 30 years they would have figured that out
but there is NO fix good luck hopefully the plumber will work
with you
