Default Shower make over , needs ideas and help

Bare with me as my terminology is likely incorrect .

Iam having to replace a shower due to a shower pan and/or drain that gave way . Iam just starting and since this is a spare bathroom have decided to do a shower kit. Great news is i have crawl space to work under . The *kit* i have will require the shower drain be moved . So i'll start there so i can then get the flooring back down . After reading it appears my pipes are cast iron and i would like to change the shower pipe to pvc /abs since i have access to it now and have to replace the broken flange anyways.
I believe i'll need a fernco coupling but is there a better area i should cut the cast iron pipe at or an area to stay away from ? The existing drain centered at 12 inch out from the side wall and 15 inch from the back wall , so i do have to move it a decent amount .

You should remove as much of the cast iron pipe as you can get to.
