In my experience, complaints of sand in the water after a repipe is a result of sediment/scale from the hot water tank as well as a small amount from the old piping. John is right about the tub, and the sediment is more visible in the tub. Havasu also hit the nail on the head with the aerators.
A good flush of your hot water tank (gas or electric) may show you some evidence. Be sure to turn off the tank before flushing and consult the owner's manual for advice on start up and shut down procedure. The boiler drain at the bottom of you tank could get blocked off by sediment while draining and you may need to open the cold supply valve occasionally as well as open/close the drain valve to loosen up the blockage. Most of the time, completely draining the tank and flushing fresh, cold water into the tank with the drain open will show you how much debris is actually in the tank.
