Default moen shower valve

my moen shower valve keeps eating up washers about every 3 months. I tried a wire brush thinking it may be a burr or hard water deposit. is there any way to sand or file the inside of the valve tube???

I had the same problem. Using Moen O rings instead of generic, polishing the bore of the valve with 800 emery, rinsing the grit out thoroughly, then using silicone grease on the cartridge seems to have done the trick.
