I am having problems with my old diverter and with the newone and the guts

We would need a little more information to be able to help you. Such as the make of the faucet, the type of diverter (tub spout, valve or push button)

Thanks John, after further inspect. I found and old screw wedged inside and all is well. You guys are great.
