UPC(Uniform Plumbing Code) requires a 2" drain for showers.
I would NOT drain a shower with inch and a half pipe. Upc also requires a 1-1/2" vent for a shower. In my jurisdiction you don't have to vent it if you tie into a horizontal main. |

I believe it is based on how much water an average shower puts out.
I don't think 1-1/2" would be able to keep up. |
