Default One Side of Faucet Not Working

We have an American Standard faucet in our kitchen sink. There are separate handles for hot & cold. Friday AM all was fine. Friday PM when I turned the hot water handle nothing came out. The cold water handle works fine, and once you turn the cold water side on then the hot water will turn on. The handles are separate and the water lines are separate. Any ideas?

Loose washer on the hot side or something plugging the faucet. Turn off the water and remove the hot stem.
