Default Spring Checks

I'm getting ready to install service sink faucets in a janitor's closet. Some of these have built in spring checks to prevent cross flow of the hot and cold water. Does anyone know how that works? Thanks.

Many of those faucets are used by hooking a hose to the faucet spout. If they put a nozzle on the other end of the hose and turn the nozzle off while leaving the hot and cold on at the faucet, with out check valves in the faucet the hot would mix with the cold throughout building.
