At Monday 2011-11-14 in the thread "Comparison of brass and PVC
ball valves" John wrote,

The threads seize? Isn't there something similar to Never-Seez for PVC?

You could try a water proof grease, but the problem with the unions is do to the nut binding because it crushes when you put a wrench on loosen it. They do make some that seal with a O-ring that only requires hand tightening.

That's what I've seen in Home Hardware. Might try a pair of them.
The worst that can happen is they fail and are replaced with brass.
