Default Connecting to buried 4" Schedule 80 WS line

I need to add a "T" connector to an existing water supply line that is buried 3' underground. I've dug the line up and have a slip connector that will work, but once that is on I will have about a 2" gap between the existing line and the "T" assembly to bridge. I can't locate a schedule 80 "repair" connector and the only schedule 40 one I could find is only 4" long; it seems like I would need about a 6"connector to do this job right.

There must be a better way - any ideas on how to accomplish this and/or supplier names would be appreciated!

At Ferguson waterworks or HD Supply or any other local waterworks supply house you can get a tapping sleeve that will clamp on and you can drill out. Or you can do a cut in tee by using to Flange coupling adapters and a tee. Or you can cut out a section of pipe and put two 90's on that will face up and then two 90's that sit on top of those and face together with a tee in between. Let me know if any of these don't work and I will list some more.

Hi Chris,

Many thanks for the ideas! I did not even know that these tapping sleeves existed and the two-elbow solution is quite simple as well! There is a Ferguson supplier nearby that I will be visiting today.

Thanks again!

Chris - I have a tapping sleeve in place now and the line is in service.
