Default utility sink

I want to add a utility sink on the right side of my washer. Inbetween the studs which are 16" o.c.there is a main drain and vent that goes from the slab up to the ceiling, and the stand pipe on the right that the washer drain hose sits in that is 34"off the floor and a p-trap connects the two pipes. My question is, can I put a separate p-trap from the new sink and connect it directly to the stand pipe or can I connect it via the p-trap directly to the main drain that goes from the floor to the vent up the ceiling? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Dave in Marysville, WA

Could you post a picture of the piping?

Under the code I work with, you could connect the utility sink to the vent above the tee for the washing machine trap. Some areas might not allow this, so proceed at your own risk.

You are good in Washington to wet vent the utility sink into the A/W vent. If you are not having it inspected you can leave the san-t below that reduces the vent pipe to 1 1/2 if you are having it inspected or really wish to be "up to code" you have to have the bottom of the utility sink drain enlarged to 2". I live right down the road in Lake Stevens if you ever run into anything more complicated. Eric
