Default Rotten cast iron soil pipe

Spent the day in this hole yesterday. Another guy dug it out.

The old cast iron pipe is rotted out on the bottom.
Trimmed the pipe with a hand grinder with a metal cutting disc.
Bottom just falls out. They would not allow us to remove the cabinets to expose more pipe.

so I used Roofing mastic to seal an abs coupling to the cast iron on both ends.

Set those ends in fast set concrete and the connected to them in the middle.

Some times you have to improvise.

Good old no-hub cast iron. Were seeing that stuff breaking down all the time. We service a three story hotel with it in the walls as well as under the slab. Were even seeing vent lines failing. Job security I guess.

Good work Dave. I love it when the owners refuse to spend a little more now to save a lot later. We run into that all the time.

That is a constant problem here in central Florida. No-hub seems to fail ten times faster than the older hubbed cast iron. If you catch it early enough, you can reline them instead of busting open the slab.

You did write a BIG CYA on the contract , didn't you ?
I cant believe that some people would opt for a half azz job, when the kitchen is already tore up.
