Default Need help with cast iron please

Hello All,

I, really need some help. I was rebuilding my bathroom sinks P-trap, and I ran into this issue. I was able to get the old flimsy pipe out from under the sink, but as you can see I cannot thread in the new 1 1/4' pipe, because there appears to be a sleeve stuck in the 2" bolt.

Basically, I want to unscrew the 2" bolt, and replace it with another 2" bolt without the metal sleeve inside.

I was hoping for any tips or suggestions on how to make this go as smooth as possible.

thank you in advance

Adam..

Also, I apologize, I see I posted this in the wrong thread.

Adam what that is is a bushing. It should just unscrew, but in many cases it will not. If you run into a problem unscrewing it then make two cuts with a hacksaw blade about a 1/2" apart. these cuts must go through the entire length of the bushing taking care not to damage the threads on the fitting it screws into. Then pick out the 1/2" section you cut free. Then using a large pair of channel lock pliers collapse and unscrew the bushing.

johnjh2o,

thanks for the reply, I had a buddy of mine with a salzall, and he cut through the bushing, and the 2" bolt. Once he did this, he took a hammeer and screwdriver and broke it out just like you suggested. All that was left was the cast iron with the threads on it, which he threaded a new PVC coupling in and started to build the p-trap. all and all not too bad when you have a salzall. :-D
