Hi everyone, I'm a newby here so apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong place, etc.
I have just been told by the CCTV drain inspector that there is an old (Victorian) manhole buried under the concrete floor in my ground floor flat living room in London. The issue is that it's getting blocked up and the moisture has been seeping through the concrete and making the wooden floor swell up.
The insurance company is on the case but does anyone know what they will have in store for me? I guess we will need to dig the floor up but is this a fairly 'common' and straightforward job? How long will the living room (and plumbing system I'm guessing) be out of action for? And are we talking big money if the insurance says they won't cover because it was already there when I bought the property? Thanks in advance for any replies! Best,
I would recommend sending Chrism a private message. He is an expert tradesman in the UK who is also a member here, and is familiar with all aspects of plumbing problems not normally seen in the United States.
