Default Drain pit in the garage dry?

Hello folks,

I have a duplex with a heated double garage. I noticed it is dry. I has an inverted drain which doesn't reach the bottom of the pit.
I think it should be in water to stop drain gasses from coming in the house?

Do you need pictures or do you know what I'm talking about?

Thanks,
Marco

Default drain in garage

the drain in garage should be a sand and oil interceptor with a trap on a horizontal drain to prevent gases from rising but a trap primer or frequent fillings from hose bib should pass.

In most areas, a garage drain requires a grease trap. This is true if the garage drain connects to the City sewers. Many people "sneak" a french drain into the garage and the waste/water do not go into the City system. Not always legal.
