Default awful sewer gas smell with rain

We get an awful sewer gas smell in the back of our small house when it rains. The smell is at its worst in middle of night/early morning hrs and gets better as day goes on. No problems when weather is dry. Any suggestions on why or what I can try?

You need to smoke test the property to find out where the sewer gas is coming from. An easy way to do this is to get some smoke bombs and pump the smoke into your sewer system using a shop vac in reverse mode.

Another vote for the smoke test. This helped me find an un-glued coupling hidden in a wall that caused a sewer smell in a store for over 15 years.
