My new tub will not reach the old drain connection due to the pad causing it to sit higher, is there a way fix this with out completely redoing the plumbing

It is very rare when replacing a tub that the drain will fit. You will have to redo it. It shouldn't that hard to do if you have good access to it.

Thank you, it seems that I can hopefully just heat up and resolder it in the correct position.

Are you confident with soldering ? and your measurement skills ?

not trying to be insulting, just asking so that you dont end up with frusteration and burnt stuff... this is a super Easy job for a plumber but might be more difficult for a homeowner or general handyman.
