I think I'll be measuring the space on mine as soon as I get home to see if I have enough brick to cover it... It hasnt been finished long enough for me to start nit-picking yet...

I might affect the garage door but I have a buddy (wife's best friends husband) who repairs garage doors on the side, so I'm sure we can get that part right...

It's surprising how similar our two garages look. Where you built around the steel shelves, and directly above, is the garage door track. Right now I have some roll away full length cabinets, but want to give my wife more room. I would like to install just upper cabinets, the entire length of that wall. Unfortunately, the track is just far enough in the way that a normal upper cabinet will fit on the wall, but the doors would not open. Do you have any ideas, short of custom built "half open face" cabinets, that I could use?

Would "add some height to the tracks and get the opener closer to the ceiling" be a bad idea? or even feasible?

With my garage remodel, I dropped the ceiling 12" to accommodate a larger attic storage. With this, I had to order a low ceiling bracket for the garage door. The track now has two rails, closer to the ceiling, and the top panel rides in the upper track. In simpler words, no, it won't fit.

Sorry for jacking your thread, but with the similarities of your garage, and me just completing my garage three months ago, it's like "Deja Vu" all over again!

Hmm... I dont really have any other ideas other than what you said about half height doors...

I did talk to my wife about the idea of bricking the entry to cover the unpainted concrete, and she wasn't against it... I've never done brickwork personally, but I had never put up crown molding before last year either, and that came out great! I'm not really worried about doing it myself, I will just have to rent the chopsaw and get the mortar.

And I think the brick/wood fold-down bar idea did get 86'd last night... we talked it over, and it seems like a lot of trouble, when I could just get a long thin sofa table to put along the wall.

You'll find concrete work is fun, but use gloves! I like to get into my work and not use gloves, but suffer for the next week or two with hands that look and feel like they have been sitting in a bowl of acid for a week.

I took this pic last night... it was the first time my wife had parked on the new floor, and I have to say I like the floor color much better with the car blocking most of it. It came out too reddish pinkish for what I wanted... I may redo it next year with a darker brown color...
