Default I hate skunks!

I thought I would give everyone a chuckle at my expense. Here it is Saturday night. A nice quiet evening just watching the boob tube. I'm getting a little tired so I decided to let the dogs out to do their business one more time before hitting the sack.

Within about 20 seconds, I hear all hell breaking loose in the backyard. My biggest fear was another coyote had jumped the wall and was devouring my little buddies. I run outside just in time to see a damn skunk running right towards me.

My little vicious dog was right on its tail, but my little timid dog was smart (so I thought!) and was running the other direction. I grabbed my vicious dog, who by now was convulsing, throwing up and was having trouble breathing. I grabbed this dog and ran out into the garage and quickly threw her into the utility sink, where I started washing the incredibly horrible smell off of her. I used tomato juice, baking soda, baby shampoo, another fragrant shampoo, and finally topped it off with Massengil Douche powder.

I took a sigh of relief until I returned into the house where my timid dog was now throwing up, and rolling on the bedspreads, the dog beds, the throw rugs, the sofa pillows, and my new leather couch, trying to get the smell away from her.

I went back into the garage and did the full body shampoo job on the timid dog, and got her smelling just a little less than horrible. I then had to stuff the washer with all the wet towels, bedspreads and pillows.

With that disaster diverted, I could not understand why I smelled so bad until I realized that little SOB must have also sprayed me. I got into the shower and scrubbed and scrubbed, but that smell is still making me sick. Before you ask, I stopped short of douching myself but I really did give it quite a bit of thought!

Now I'm sitting in my family room where the smell of skunk is everywhere and I am exhausted!

I hope you all had a really nice chuckle, because I didn't!

I'm right there with ya. Skunks got my cat...twice, when she surprised them next to the garbage cans and when they shacked up under the shed. She now freezes when they walk past, but the clean up seemed never-ending. The oils coated me and all of the furniture she was hiding under until I could capture her. She is less curious of other critters, now. I hope that washing your dogs was easier than washing a cat, but I will admit that tomato paste worked better than anything that was over the counter from the pet store.
The coyotes still keep their distance and haven't ventured from the ball field across the street, yet. And, of course, all creatures stay out of the path of the deer in our neighborhood. The local buck is very aggressive and at around 250 lbs. with a rack like a moose, he does as he likes. My wife never walks the dog after sunset since she was charged 2 years ago.
Ahh, the beauty of wildlife in or towns. Guess we gotta get used to them because they're not going anywhere.
Hope you get some rest.

For some future info on skunks,, never use water to try and wash it off. The water will amplify the oder. Baby powder will soak up the oil from the spray. Don't wash the powder off, use a towel. And yes I found this out the hard way!

My garage seems to have been hit the worst. I just bleached, scrubbed, industrial cleaner, simple green, and dried it....and it still smells like skunk. I have two candles in each room of the house, and have one of those air fresheners that sprays every 5 minutes. Damn that thing!

After all that work in the garage today, It still smells just as bad as the night it occurred. All I can think of was the dogs were using the undercarriage of the cars as a way to scrape that stuff off of their fur after giving them a bath. I either have to pay big bucks for an undercarriage wash for the jeep and my other car, or wait and hope it rains this weekend, as they say might happen.

Sounds like you need a strong incense.

I get a dad rat every once in a while in the walls.

I found the spray only smells like spray and death as where a good sandalwood will completely cover the smell and linger much longer.

Have you tried ammonia based cleaners?
